Palomo (White Labrador Shar-Pei mix) :
Good with all dogs. Great with all people. We got him at three years old. I’ve never seen him around small children, but we used to have a neighbor that was 11 and he loved her. I don’t know how he would be with small ones, but he is gentle and loving.
Every time he sees a neighborhood cat, he gets extremely excited so compatibility with cats and other small animals is unknown. He has gotten out and chased them a few times. He gets very excited, but not in a mean way. He absolutely loves to go for walks. Other than that, he’s a very chill, relaxed, loving cuddle bug. If there is a storm, and nobody is home, we have to close the dog door with him inside or he will hurt himself trying to escape. He has never been destructive when left inside during storms. If we are home, then he’s fine with the dog door open. Ideally someone that’s willing to walk him daily, and willing to keep him inside without outside access when in storms.
Kona (Chocolate lab mix):
She is the biggest, social butterfly dog I’ve ever met. She absolutely loves all people! And I mean loves!!! She’s never had issues with small children however, she does tend to jump up when excited, so super small children are not necessarily ideal if they are not going to provide further training.
Compatibility with cats is unknown as she’s never been around them. Kona has developed noise anxiety over the years. She used to be fearless, but she is now so afraid of noises. Examples: wind in the trees, nearby, construction, fireworks and storms of course, but the worst is the trash truck, and anything that sounds like the squeaky brakes of a trash truck as well. She panics and hides in the bathroom. She’s fine being left alone, she doesn’t become destructive with her anxiety, ever! I put music on for her to make the sounds less nerve-racking, while you’re gone. Because of her anxiety, she’s not the kind of dog that does good on walks. She does panic and pull very hard with all the different sounds. However, she loves being outside and playing in the backyard with a passion. Fetch, keep away and catch are her favorites. She loves to go for car rides.
Her anxiety has also contributed to her, not being OK with all dogs. NO dog park visits as Kona gets along great with some dogs but can be fearful and uncomfortable around other dogs. Ideally, she would either be with Palomo or the only dog in the household. If another dog is there, introduction would be absolutely necessary for her to see if they will get along. If they get along, then I would have no worries at all with her being homed with them. She LOVES to play. She is my baby girl. I just want someone patient enough to get past her anxiety and fear, because she is the most loving, sweet companion, and they will love her forever if they have the patience to give her for the adjustment period needed. She is on Apoquel for her allergies. The vet also prescribed trazodone to give her an hour and a half before the trash truck comes or before storms or Fourth of July, etc.
