Marley is one of the most gentle, sweetest, and nicest dogs I’ve ever met. He loves to be around people and is perfectly content just cuddling and hanging out, but is also energetic and likes to play with toys, balls, and absolutely loves going on walks. He definitely does not act his age, which I think is a good indicator that he still has a lot of good years ahead of him. I’ve never seen a dog get so excited when you come home from work – it’s very cute. He does fine being left alone and has never had an accident in the house.

Other Dogs ▼
Playful! I think Marley would do great in a house with other dogs - he loves to play. We had my friend's lab come over for the day and they played non stop all day. He has not shown any signs of aggression towards any other dogs.
Cats ▼
I introduced Marley to my girlfriend's 2 cats and he was very chill and generally uninterested in the cats, and even played a bit with the more playful cat
Children ▼
I have not introduced Marley to any children but I assume he would be gentle since he is very gentle otherwise.
Leash ▼
It seems like Marley maybe hasn't spent that much time on a leash in his life, and definitely pulls on the leash especially when we see other dogs, but overall is a good walker and I think with a bit of training could be great on a leash.
Where I'm from ▼
Marley has had a bit of a tough life so far and seems to be very grateful to be in a nice home. As far as I can tell from his records, he was originally picked up as a stray in 2018 by a shelter in Arkansas, and was adopted by an older woman. This summer, he was returned to that shelter because his owner could no longer take care of him. From there, RMLR rescued him and I've been fostering him since then. Marley is receiving lots of TLC since arriving with RMLR. Our vets have given him a dental, removed some lumps on on his eyelids, aspirated some lumps (fatty lipomas), biopsied a lump on his leg (non-cancerous) and taken x-rays to check his knees and hips. It appears Marley has cranial cruciate ligament rupture (suspect complete tear on the left with partial tear on the right). He has significant arthritis in his left knee with mild signs of arthritis in the right knee. Marley also has hip dysplasia affecting his right hip with secondary mild-to-moderate arthritis. The vet recommends Marley continue to loose some weight and when his knees really start to bother him, he should get staged TPLO surgeries on both knees. RMLR will cover the cost of the surgeries at one of our approved orthopedic vets. For now, pain meds and high quality joint supplements will help keep him comfortable for as long as possible. Marley does not these aches and pains slow him down. He is a happy and out going boy!
