Buddy is a big love. He enjoys our dogs, but likes to be around people even more. He can be a little demanding when seeking attention, but it is all good natured. He loves to give kisses. He will also settle down and entertain himself with a toy, or a pile of toys that he collects, for extended periods. He quickly adapted to our routine, and our dogs. He is energetic and loves to run around in the yard and go on walks. He does well in a crate, at least when we are home. We have not had him in a crate when we are away, as he is safe and non-destructive. He knows how to sit, but does not know a lot of commands. However, he is well behaved in the home – no counter surfing, no chewing things other than dog toys, etc. He sleeps on a dog bed in our room, but sometimes will opt for privacy and sleep in the family room (he may want some space from our two dogs). He will make a wonderful companion for an active person or family that wants a loving dog who always wants to be around his people.
Thank you to Wag Your Tail Photography for taking great photos of Buddy!!

Other Dogs ▼
He is great with other dogs. However, he does have a little bit of resource guarding behavior regarding toys and other dogs, which we are working on. On walks he wants to meet every dog he sees. Every. Single. One.
Cats ▼
Doesn't react to cats he has met.
Children ▼
He is fine with older children. We have not seen him with younger children. Since he has no idea of his own size and strength, we do have some reservations, simply because we think in his excitement and desire to play he may just bowl smaller children over.
Leash ▼
Buddy LOVES walks. He does pull some on a leash, but we are working on loose leash walking. He is learning. He now will come to a stop when there is pressure on the leash, but once it loosens up, it doesn’t take too long until he reaches the end of the leash again. He is quite distracted during walks, sniffing and exploring everything, so hard to keep focused, but this improves a lot as the walk progresses. He also wants to go meet every dog he sees. Because we have two dogs of our own, and have to walk Buddy separately to work on training, he only gets one walk a day. I think his leash behavior will improve a lot and his training speed up significantly, if he is able to go on two or more walks a day.
Where I'm from ▼
Buddy is from Oklahoma, and is an owner surrender--"too big." It appears that he was kept outside, and led a fairly sheltered life--but he's clearly happy to be experiencing it all now!
