Buck is a senior dog with a heart of gold. He is the epitome of sweetness and has a mellow demeanor that can melt even the coldest of hearts. Despite his age, Buck is as friendly as they come and is always willing to be part of your welcoming committee. He just wants to be friends with everyone although he takes cues well to note that not everyone may want to be friends with him. He loves being around his humans and just wants to be part of the fun, even if that means just sitting on the sidelines. He weighs in at 100 pounds but is always down for a walk. He is always down for treats and taking medicine is a breeze with a bit of cheese or some chicken flavored pill pockets. He snores up a storm when it’s time for naps and he loves rolling over for some good belly scratches. Although he lacks confidence, especially when walking on hard wood floors, putting a leash on gives him a gentle reminder that you are right by his side the whole way. Although he loves afternoon naps out in the sun on some soft grass, sleeping inside on a warm bed is also equally as inviting to him. He loves all creatures and does not think anyone or any animal could do him wrong.
More info about Buck
Other Dogs ▼
Buck loves all creatures big and small - especially dogs. He thinks every dog is out to make friends and play with him. On his first interaction with our resident dog, his tail was wagging and he was whining. He was super excited to meet a new friend.
Cats ▼
Although Buck seems interested in the cats at home, he does not chase them or push them to interact with him. He observes them from a far generally. In the one occasion that he got to close to one of the resident cats (just wanted to really sniff their fur), the resident cat gently swatted him away. He took the hint and walked away without a word.
Children ▼
We have not observed his behavior with children yet but given his calm and friendly demeanor towards all creatures, he should be fine with children of all ages so long as there are clear boundaries. He is on the larger side so he may bump into smaller children easier when he gets excited but it is never intentional.
Leash ▼
Buck is so great on a leash! He walks right in front of the human and does not pull at all even when there are rabbits or squirrels on the trail.
Where I'm from ▼
Buck was an owner surrender at the Riverdale Animal Shelter in Brighton, CO on 6/12/2025. The prior owner had him for a week and prior to that, nothing else was known about his history. He was picked up by RMLR on 6/28. The shelter says he always kept a very clean kennel.
