Bridgette is a beautiful 5-6 year-old black lab mix who is finally getting the fresh start she’s been waiting for. She has a gorgeous soft and shiny coat.
After over a year in a rescue in Oklahoma, Bridgette has transitioned into foster care and has quickly reminded everyone that she was meant to be part of a family. She has settled into home life with ease, is house-trained, sleeps quietly through the night in her crate, rides wonderfully in the car, and has learned her household manners.
She loves meeting people, enjoys attention, and has a wonderfully goofy, wiggly personality that will keep you smiling.
She has done well living with multiple dogs of all sizes and has also been fostered successfully with cats in Oklahoma. Bridgette appreciates clear boundaries around high-value items like food and squeaky toys around other dogs. With simple management and continued training, she has already made excellent progress and continues to become more relaxed and confident everyday.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion who is affectionate, fun-loving, and ready to enjoy the simple pleasures of family life, Bridgette may be your perfect match. She has waited a long time for a place to call home, and she’s more than ready to share her heart with the people lucky enough to call her family.
More info about Bridgette
Other Dogs ▼
Bridgette has successfully lived with lots of other dogs in foster care in Oklahoma, big and small, male and female before coming to RMLR. In Colorado, she has had limited interactions with other dogs in the home and is fostered as the only dog. Given she spent a lot of her life in a kennel, we know Bridgette can be prone to guarding resources in her space when she first meets other dogs. She was able to work through this in a couple of days in her Oklahoma foster home with clear boundaries and learning she was safe. Bridgette has also done well at boarding with other dogs and loves to play. She does much better greeting when she is off leash.
Cats ▼
Bridgette lived successfully with cats in Oklahoma and did fine.
Children ▼
We don't know if Bridgette has ever been around kids. Given she is be known to guard resources, Bridgette is looking for a home with older kids or adults only.
Leash ▼
She walks nicely on leash on quiet mountain roads. In town, when she sees other dogs, Bridgette can get overly excited to meet and is working on staying calm and focussed. She is learning quickly when she is walked in quieter areas and less doggie traffic.
Where I'm from ▼
Bridgette is from Oklahoma. She was picked up from a local animal control last year by a rescue partner. For unknown reasons, Bridgette wasn't networked to rescues. The rescue partner sadly passed away earlier this year, leaving Bridgette and other dogs with no where to go. Bridgette had surgery to correct her cherry eye 8/12 and she is recovering nicely. We so appreciate her fosters for helping her through surgery and recovery.
