Howie is an absolute gem. It’s impossible not to love him. He wants to be by my side at every moment, but will lie down nearby or go into the other room and jump onto the couch when he realizes I’m going to be at my desk working. He loves toys and will try to bring sticks inside the house. He plays amazing with my Great Pyrenees and listens to cues when she no longer wants to play or he’s being too rough. Howie does have a lot of energy, so walks are a must. He will sometimes play fetch, sometimes just chase! He is a big boy that is learning not to jump, so he might do better in a house without little kids. He loves the car. He jumps in easily without any hesitation and after a while of looking out the window, he curls up and takes a nap.
Working on some counter surfing. No problems with being in the kennel while I’m gone. He’s only been alone in the kennel about 2.5 hours at a time, but he slept the entire time, curled up with only minimal whining right when I left.

Other Dogs ▼
He has done great with the 2 other dogs he has met since being with me. He wrestles with my 100 lb Great Pyrenees and nibbles on her face and legs to encourage her to play. He is very friendly and seems like he just wants to play!
Cats ▼
Howie lived with a cat in his previous home but the cat was too scared to meet Howie. He may be ok, but untested.
Children ▼
He hasn’t met any children yet while in his foster home, but I’m sure he would absolutely love to cuddle older kids. He does get very excited to see people and because of his size, might knock over smaller children.
Leash ▼
His leash skills are a work in progress, but I think he will catch on quickly.
Where I'm from ▼
Howie is from Alabama and spent his early years as an outside dog. Last year his family could no longer care for him and so another family member took him in. They worked hard with Howie on house manners and asked a local rescue to help find him a great forever home. The Alabama rescue reached out to RMLR to see if we could help. Howie arrived on April 13th.
