PC is a total sweetheart! He is not a cuddle bug/lap dog like some labs are, but does want to be where we are so that may change as he continues to decompress and adjust to his new surroundings.
PC is coming out of his shell and is seeking affection from his foster family more and more every day. He loves having his neck and behind his ears rubbed! He is still in Velcro mode, and wants to be wherever we are. He has found his voice and likes to tell us when it’s time to eat and go for a walk! He loves to be outside. He has discovered grass hoppers and it is quite funny to see him pounce around the yard!
He sleeps on a dog bed near our bed through the night. He is a good napper during the day.
He likes to chew and we are keeping a close eye on stuffed/squeaker toys to be sure he doesn’t want to shred them. So far bones, Kong, and rope toys are favorites.
He travels well. Mostly just lays down in the car. Occasionally pops his head up to see what’s going on, but settles right back down.
He loves to walk and explore so if you’re looking for a lab more on the smaller side to be your hiking buddy or additional member of your active family, PC is for you!
PC update 8/24/25:
PC is doing really well! We wanted to provide this update on his plan since seeing the CSU dermatologist on August 18.
PC has CDA (color dilution alopecia). The dermatologist was able to review PCs original veterinary records as well as examine him in person. PC has had a coarse, thinner coat since he was a puppy, classic display of CDA. The only way to know 100% is to perform a skin biopsy, which they felt was unnecessary and did not want to put PC through that as his skin is healing nicely and his coat is coming in. He now has “peach fuzz” all over the areas that previously had no hair and looks so much better. With the CDA, his coat will always be coarse and brittle. The dermatologist also recommended a different shampoo to use once per month in order to help prevent any further skin infections. Only bathing him once per month will help to prevent breakage of the hairs growing in.
For the allergy trial, we will stop the Cytopoint injections and continue feeding him the special diet for the next six weeks. Once the medication is completely out of his system if the itching returns that will signify environmental allergies. If the itching does not return after the six weeks continuing on the special diet then we will be able to trial a more commercial diet to see if the allergy was to a particular protein. There is no fast way to complete this testing. Time will tell us.
RMLR will pay for skin allergy testing if needed within the first year of PC’s adoption. Since environmental testing is very specific to an area that he would be living, and the dermatologist recommended waiting nearly a year before doing any environmental testing if needed.

Other Dogs ▼
He has done very well meeting other dogs while out walking. He does not seem bothered or stressed. He does not rush up, but waits for the ok with tail wagging. He is very curious. PC has made friends with the back fence neighbor dog. He often looks for her, and when she is outside she rushes over to say hello. He does not bark just wags his tail a lot! He loves playing with his foster brother! The first couple of days he did not engage much, however now they like to play tug and share toys.
Cats ▼
Unknown. No cats in the home. Wants to chase rabbits and squirrels on walks.
Children ▼
PC did well interacting with some visiting friends with a 4 year old and 7 year old. He did not jump up, waited patiently for a ball to be thrown, and accepted toys from them gently. He did not appear to know any commands except “lay down” when he first arrived. He is highly food motivated (we use his kibble for treats) and has already learned “sit” and will “stay” in place for a short while so far. No children in the home. He is very sweet though and has been very curious and calm meeting people on walks.
Leash ▼
He does very well! Mostly loose leash. He stays in front without too much back and forth. He is very curious and loves exploring all of the new sights and smells since coming to Colorado. He is not bothered at all by bicycles that share the trail.
Where I'm from ▼
PCs owner passed away. He was at the shelter for about 3 weeks before coming to CO. He has some skin allergies that we are working with the vet to treat. He is on a special food now to help. He is also underweight, so hopefully this good nutrition and less stressful environment will help him gain weight and help his skin to heal.
