Marley is one of the most gentle, sweetest, and nicest dogs ever. He loves to be around people and is perfectly content just cuddling and hanging out, but is also energetic and likes to play with toys, balls, and absolutely loves going on walks. He definitely does not act his age, which is a good indicator that he still has a lot of good years ahead of him. He gets so excited when you come home from work – it’s very cute. He does fine being left alone and has never had an accident in the house.
Marley has bad knees, but RMLR is working to repair them. He had a complete CCL tear on his left leg and a partial tear on his right leg. He had surgery on his left knee on April 15th and will be recovering from that for about 3 months. Once hs’s fully healed on the left we will do surgery on the right side (if adopted before then, RMLR will pay for the surgery). He has significant arthritis in his left knee with mild signs of arthritis in the right knee. The surgery won’t reverse the arthritis but will stop it from progressing. Marley also has hip dysplasia affecting his right hip with secondary mild-to-moderate arthritis. The vet recommends Marley stays at the proper weight or slight under. He will also likely need pain meds and joint supplements to keep him comfortable for the rest of his life. His vet also said that someone who is willing to work with him to gain some of his hind leg muscle strength via PT would be a great fit for him. Marley does not let his aches and pains slow him down. He is a happy and outgoing and very active boy! He’s very much a happy go lucky lab that isn’t going to let a little pain slow him down.

Other Dogs ▼
Playful! I think Marley would do great in a house with other dogs - he loves to play. We had my friend's lab come over for the day and they played non stop all day. He has not shown any signs of aggression towards any other dogs.
Cats ▼
I introduced Marley to my girlfriend's 2 cats and he was very chill and generally uninterested in the cats, and even played a bit with the more playful cat
Children ▼
I have not introduced Marley to any children but I assume he would be gentle since he is very gentle otherwise.
Leash ▼
It seems like Marley maybe hasn't spent that much time on a leash in his life, and definitely pulls on the leash especially when we see other dogs, but overall is a good walker and I think with a bit of training could be great on a leash.
Where I'm from ▼
Marley has had a bit of a tough life so far and seems to be very grateful to be in a nice home. His records say that he was originally picked up as a stray in 2018 by a shelter in Arkansas, and was adopted by an older woman. This summer, he was returned to that shelter because his owner could no longer take care of him. Marley is receiving lots of TLC since arriving with RMLR. Our vets have given him a dental, removed some lumps on on his eyelids, aspirated some lumps (fatty lipomas), biopsied a lump on his leg (non-cancerous) and taken x-rays to check his knees and hips.
