Trooper is a very sweet gentle boy. He just wants to be right near his humans and get lots of love. He will make sure to thank you by giving his paw. He can have big energy once he gets excited like when he is playing fetch in the backyard. Most of the day he is pretty mellow. He plays with his toys and sleeps on his back giving you his awkward smile while looking at you upside down. He responds to commands and knows SIT, DOWN, DROP IT. He is extremely bright and a quick learner, especially with food or treats.

Other Dogs ▼
Trooper loves other dogs and likes to play. He has some puppy exuberance and takes corrections well from older dogs that may not be up for his play. He loves to fetch and is great at sharing toys. He is wary of barking dogs and is still building confidence navigating busy Colorado streets. Trooper would likely to best in a home where he has another dog buddy to play with and keep him company when his humans leave the house for work.

Children ▼
So far he has been great with my children, ages 6 and 9. He is very curious and will follow them around, but just wants to be near people or pet. His energy matches the children and if they get all excited, then he will get excited, especially while playing. He is still learning when to turn on and off play mode and got a little mouthy with my youngest 6yr old daughter thinking she was hiding a ball. He is corrected easily and listens well. He may do best with children older than 6 that know when to let him have his space.
Leash ▼
Trooper is still figuring out the leash thing. He will walk perfectly on one side of your body until he picks up a scent and then he will zig-zag back and forth. He is very curious and interested in smelling everything he can. We are working on getting him out for a few good long walks daily and he will most likely figure it out quickly.
Where I'm from ▼
Trooper was found as a stray in Kansas. He spent some time in a foster home before coming to Colorado. Trooper was initially an only dog in his foster home and while he was settling in really well and building confidence, he was getting increasingly stressed when left alone in his crate. RMLR moved Trooper to a new foster with two other dogs, and while it is still early, it looks like Trooper was really looking for company when left alone. While we know many of our dogs that have overcome separation anxiety, especially when working with one our recommended trainers, Trooper is likely to be more immediately successful in a home with other dogs and short periods alone. If he is an only dog, he will likely need a home where someone is always home, or can make accomodations for him not being alone to start and slowly increasing time alone.
