Tony is an absolute love bug. He has been through some rough times over the last months and he just needs some structure and TLC. Tony loves to cuddle, loves his humans, he will be right by your side or laying at your feet. Tony also loves to play rough with other dogs, he is learning social cues at training, and he can be dog selective. This may be temporary, however Tony does great with dogs that will not challenge him. I also think Tony was a bit stressed as he was in several different locations in a short amount of time. He didn’t know where he belonged, it definitely tugged at my heart, as he is a really loyal and loving dog. Tony had zero issues with my dogs outside, in my backyard, and on walks. It was only in the house and when we were getting the dogs out of the kennels. I don’t think Tony knew his place yet. I don’t think I would recommend Tony being around smaller dogs or cats. Larger dogs would be best. His confidence is a little shaky, but each day he was doing so much better. I am not sure he has ever lived in a home? He did great with going to the bathroom outside, I had to make sure I took him out often so he knew where to go. He does great on a leash, loves to walk and explore. Once he is done with his heart worm treatments, he would make a great walking or running partner and even hikes – he would love that! He loves to snuggle on the couch or get a belly rub anytime anyone offers. He takes treats gently, and loves eating his food in the kennel. We started the positive reinforcement training with treats and that already made a big difference. He has a really goofy personality, he wanted to play with the turtles at the vet, and will take all his toys out of the bin and inspect each one then choose one to play with. He entertained himself with a wobble ball for hours, and he likes to play soccer with a big red ball. Tony is in a board and train for 3 weeks to get a head start on his training and I think with continued training he will be a one in a million type of companion!
More info about Tony
Other Dogs ▼
Tony has always been around other dogs per his past fosters report, however he can be dog selective. Tony does like to play with other dogs, and when another dog doesn't want to play, he gets offended or doesn't take a hint. Tony did well with my female lab, but did not get a long great with my male lab. Tony was also very stressed coming off the transport and this might have been a problem. He has been bounced around too many places in a short amount of time. After a few days of learning the schedule and where he fit in, he did much better. He is also best if fed in his kennel. I would not recommend Tony being around smaller dogs.
Cats ▼
Not sure, I would say no, he likes to chase squirrels.
Children ▼
Tony is very good with people, he likes to protect his humans.
Leash ▼
Tony is very good on a leash, he does like to chase squirrels, but has done great walking past people and other dogs. We always recommend not allowing dogs to meet other dogs while walking. Tony walks very well on a no pull leash that hooks to the front and back of the harness.
Where I'm from ▼
Tony was found wandering the streets of Texas. He needed some TLC. He had an eyelid surgery that he has recovered from, he needs heartworm treatment and needs to put on some weight. Tony is mixed with Pyrenees, he has the double dew claws.
