Jack has calmed down considerably since he first arrived. As he learned the daily routine of meals, walks, playtime, and bedtime he has become much calmer, and his personality has really come out. He loves to be by your side when you’re at home. He has not chewed on anything besides the toys that we give him. We have left Jack at home with our dog for up to 3 hours with free roam of the house and when we return everything is fine. He sleeps on the floor in our bedroom and sleeps peacefully through the night.
Jack loves to play fetch with his tennis balls!!! He is a very affectionate dog, and loves attention and belly rubs. He will lean against you gently and likes to lay his head on your lap. He knows the sit command. Since Jack is his actual name he responds when you call him.
He might take up to 48 hours to completely adjust to a new environment. There were two accidents at our home after a stressful all-day transport journey from Salt Lake City to Denver, but Jack has been perfect since then. We give him frequent opportunities to go out in the backyard, but he will also go stand by the back door when he wants to be let out. We have a 3-ft tall backyard fence, but he has never tried to jump it.
More info about Jack
Other Dogs ▼
Jack gets along very well with our senior female black lab. He enjoys his walks around the neighborhood and interacts well with other dogs along the way.
Cats ▼
Unknown at this time.
Children ▼
Jack is very well behaved around children. He would probably do best with children that are at least 5 years old since he is a large dog and might accidentally knock over small children while playing.
Leash ▼
Jack does best if you can let him be out in front of you on a longer lead. He still tends to pull a bit when he is on a shorter lead.
Where I'm from ▼
Jack was an owner surrender. He was adopted as a puppy. Unfortunately, health issues resulted in his owners being unable to care for him any longer. He had been spending quite a bit of time alone while waiting for placement with the rescue.
