Baxter is a sweet, gentle, and easygoing dog with a wonderfully balanced personality. He’s calm and well-mannered in most situations, whether he’s out on a walk or relaxing at home, and he handles new sights and sounds with confidence. While he enjoys meeting other dogs and shows friendly curiosity, he’s not overly excitable and stays easy to manage.
At home, Baxter is affectionate and people-oriented. He loves spending time with his humans and is often more interested in soaking up attention than roughhousing with other dogs. He’s also very respectful of boundaries, picking up on cues from other dogs and giving them space when needed.
Overall, Baxter is a loving, well-adjusted companion who would fit beautifully into a home looking for a calm, friendly, and devoted dog.
More info about Baxter
Other Dogs ▼
Baxter does very well with other dogs. During walks, he remains calm even when other dogs bark at him and does not appear anxious or reactive. He shows friendly interest when he sees other dogs, and if one gets closer, he may become a bit excited to meet them, but he stays manageable on leash and does not pull excessively. At home, he lives with another dog and does a great job picking up on her cues. He gives her space when needed and is often more interested in seeking affection from his humans than engaging in play.
Cats ▼
Baxter has shown little to no interest in cats so far. When our cat accidentally got out one day, Baxter remained calm and didn’t react. We’re currently keeping them separated and plan to introduce them properly in a few days, but even in the meantime, he has been able to smell and hear the cat without showing much curiosity. He also does not display prey drive toward small animals like rabbits or squirrels during walks, which is reassuring.
Children ▼
Baxter has only been around children during our walks so far. When he sees them, he appears happy and curious but remains calm and does not pull or try to rush toward them. He is generally well-mannered on leash and seems comfortable observing children from a distance. Based on his gentle demeanor and lack of overexcitement, we believe he would do well with a proper, gradual introduction to children.
Leash ▼
Baxter walks very well on a leash and does not pull, even when he finds something interesting, like a particularly appealing spot in the grass. He stays calm and manageable throughout walks, typically walking with a slack on the leash, making him easy to handle.
Where I'm from ▼
Baxter came to us as an owner surrender from Kansas. He previously lived with a family that included two children, with another on the way. Unfortunately, one of the children developed severe allergies, and the family also felt they could no longer give Baxter the time and attention he deserves. Now, Baxter is ready for a fresh start with a family who can give him the time, attention, and love he deserves during his peak years.
