From an adoption dad...
Roses are red
violets are blue
I adopted a dog
from Christians lab rescue (the husband of the founder)

House broken he is
That I was assured
so imagine my surprise
when he laid down a turd

Not in the back yard
not where he dug
smack dab in the middle
of the living room rug

The pride in his eyes
was not in vain
for he certainly knew
that the pile would stain

off to the stairs
he again marked a spot
this time with pee
and topped off with some snot

"I want a dog"
Olivia hounded me for years
I know what to do
so wipe away those tears

"I will walk him and feed him
and pick up the yard"
I promise you not to worry
so she played the wife card

I gave in reluctantly
Oh yes I did
and Christian came forth
with a puppy for my kid

So I take him for walks
I wake in the night
I pick up the yard
and I do it with spite

I am nudged by my wife
each night in the bed
"the puppy is crying
so get him or your dead"

The toys are scattered
and he chewed up my chair
he cost 60 bucks to feed
and 20 to groom his hair

So I am glad to hear you all like your work
Because I am starting to think one of you is a jerk
So sit back on your couch with the DVR on play
I will be in the back yard shovelling away

How Sweet It Is!

Andy

Go figure, Andy ended up being adopted by his foster parents, the founders of RMLR!  They became so attached to the sweet guy and held his paws as he went through a very difficult sugery and complications afterwards!  Andy now has three furry brothers, a human sister, and a pair of parents that are obviously dedicated to the welfare of all dogs, not just those in need!  Good luck Andy!

Thank you to Andy's sponsors!

Riley

Riley has been renamed Rex.  He is living with his new family in Deer Creek Canyon.  He gets to go for hikes and runs with his new mom.  He has a furry sister named Chey Anne.  Despite the fact that Chey Anne is a border collie and loves to herd, Rex is discouraging her behavior!!  They get along very well otherwise and love to play together!!

Fiona

Fiona came to the rescue with 2 brothers and 1 sister. They were from Nebraska. Their mother froze to death outside this past winter from a neglectful owner. We were so happy to get them in - they were the cutest things ever. Fiona was adopted by a wonderful family in Longmont. They have renamed her Maggie!

Precious

Precious came to the rescue with one of her (many) children, Baby. A backyard breeder had dropped the two of them off at a shelter after not being able to make any more money off their litters of puppies. They are both delightful friendly dogs.  Precious was adopted to a family in Lyons, CO.  She has been renamed Lilly and is enjoying life being a dog!

UPDATE: We adopted Precious, now Lily in March.  We keep forgetting to send a note.  She is doing so well...  She's enjoying life being a dog and not a mother. She is getting more and more spunk by the day, and has had all kinds of new experiences since May.  She's a sweet loving dog, and we are so happy to have her in our life!

Baby

If that's not a smile, I'm not sure what one looks like!! Baby came to the rescue with her mother, Precious, from Missouri. The two had  been dropped off at a shelter from a backyard breeder after he couldn't make any more money off of their puppies. Baby was adopted by a young couple in Wheat Ridge. She will be renamed and spend the rest of her happily ever after with a 4  year old black lab sister named Jetta. We'll have more of an update soon!

Deede

Deede came to us from a shelter in Oklahoma with her littermate, Mia. The shelter tried so hard to get the two of them adopted, but it's hard for black dogs in Oklahoma. The two of them spent three weeks in a foster home in OK before making their way to Colorado. She was adopted out to the roommate of Mia's new mom - so she and Mia get to live together. How cool is that? We will have more of an update soon!

Mia

Mia came to us from a shelter in Oklahoma.  The shelter tried so hard to adopt her and couldn't figure out why she wasn't getting adopted.  The shelter contacted RMLR and we agreed to get her a new home here in Colorado!  Mia spent three weeks in foster care with an unbelieveable foster mom in OK before getting to Colorado.  Mia's adoptive mom knew Mia was for her and Mia was lucky enough that she came to Colorado and got to go straight home!  We will have an update soon on how she is doing with her new mom and "big" sister a two-year-old teacup yorkiepoo.

Windom

Windom came to RMLR as an urgent rescue.  Somebody used to love him and then left him on a chain all winter outside and starved him.  To top that off he was then dumped on a road in Strasburg, CO.  A nice lady picked him up and contacted us.  Windom was in foster care for two weeks and became the biggest love bug ever.  We couldn't understand how somebody could be so cruel to such a sweet soul.  Windom was adopted by an awesome family in Erie, CO and now has three human brothers and a black lab brother too!  Good luck Windom!

Thank you to Windom's sponsors!

Happy

Happy came to us from Georgia. When he first showed up he had a bad skin infection. He truly is one of the most well behaved puppies we've ever seen. Happy was adopted by a friend of RMLR named Tillie. He has been renamed Gustav Rodrigo - or affectionately Gus! He has tons of personality and he's great at playing fetch. He'll spend a lot of time going to dog parks, chewing on toys and wrestling with his new pup sister Darby.

FROM: As many of you are probably unaware, yesterday I celebrated my 1 year anniversary of my adoption. Just want to give you a big THANK YOU! for getting me out of Georgia (I hate the humidity) and out here to Colorado where dogs basically run the place! The last year has been a lot of change for me but I'm enjoying lounging on the couch all day while Bart (the name I gave my human) goes to work. I am lucky enough to be a ten minute walk to the dogpark and since SPRING FORWARD I have been enjoying this endeavor nearly daily. I'm still fit and firm with a little more gray than you will all remember. But do NOT think I am old... I still manage to dance for food, play with big dogs and small dogs alike and though it takes three or four bounces... I've picked up and enjoy fetch quite a bit.

Kiki

Kiki was rescued along with two other dogs from a very rural shelter in Arkansas.  Sponsors helped us pull her and put her in temporary boarding as we got transport arranged.  She was adopted by a great family in Erie,CO. They have renamed her Lola. She's been doing well in training classes other than pulling on the lease from time to time. Although that's great for pulling her dad around the neighborhood on his skateboard. She getting along great with her 2 new human siblings!

Cookie

Cookie is such a sweetheart. When she came to us from a dirty shelter in Georgia she was a mess. She had fleas, ticks, she was underweight and she was in heat. With a lot of love and care she's opened up and socialized nicely with other dogs. She's an amazing dog. She was adopted out to a great lady in Denver who is renaming her Lucy. She's going to love hiking in the mountains and taking runs from here on out!

Diane

Diane was rescued from a swampy nasty shelter in Arkansas.  Diane has been renamed Dee Dee (a combination of Bee Bee and Diane).  She was only with the rescue for 2 days before she was adopted out to a great family in Denver. She'll miss her brother Jack, but will love her new human brother and new family. She's really enjoying her new home and settling in nicely. Lucky puppy!

Shavano

Shavano came to us from a shelter in Missouri. He is a energetic, just-wants-attention 7 month old black lab mix. While in foster care he was best know for his counter-surfing capabilities! He was adopted after an adoption event at Pet Depot in Littleton. We will find out more soon!
