Roses are red
violets are blue
I adopted a dog
from Christians lab rescue (the husband of the founder)
House broken he is
That I was assured
so imagine my surprise
when he laid down a turd
Not in the back yard
not where he dug
smack dab in the middle
of the living room rug
The pride in his eyes
was not in vain
for he certainly knew
that the pile would stain
off to the stairs
he again marked a spot
this time with pee
and topped off with some snot
"I want a dog"
Olivia hounded me for years
I know what to do
so wipe away those tears
"I will walk him and feed him
and pick up the yard"
I promise you not to worry
so she played the wife card
I gave in reluctantly
Oh yes I did
and Christian came forth
with a puppy for my kid
So I take him for walks
I wake in the night
I pick up the yard
and I do it with spite
I am nudged by my wife
each night in the bed
"the puppy is crying
so get him or your dead"
The toys are scattered
and he chewed up my chair
he cost 60 bucks to feed
and 20 to groom his hair
So I am glad to hear you all like your work
Because I am starting to think one of you is a jerk
So sit back on your couch with the DVR on play
I will be in the back yard shovelling away

Riddick

|
Riddick came to us as an owner surrender from a family in Kansas. They left him on a chain in their backyard and never brought him indoors. The poor guy spent his entire puppyhood without being able to be a puppy. He was adopted by a young active fella from Arvada. He's already been hiking and to Red Rocks!
An update from the new owner: I just wanted to tell your organization thank you for such a great dog. Chongo, formerly known as Riddick, loves his new life. Together, we go hiking and camping all the time, and loves people, which is awesome because whenever someone comes in my house he will never hesitate to give a big slobbery greeting. However still thinks he's a little puppy, when in fact he is a BIG puppy, but he's learning his size slowly but surely, but like I said, Chongo is such an amazing and sweet dog and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. So thanks again and I think Chongo will enjoy his years to come. |

Elbert

|
Elbert is easily the largest dog that has ever come through the Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue. He tips the scale at 100lbs and he's not overweight! What a lover though!! Elbert came to us from a shelter near Witchitia, KS. He was adopted by a great family from Firestone, CO who loves their dogs. They have renamed him Black Bart and we can't wait to hear an update about this big fella! |

Pal

|
Pal wandered into a family's yard in Kansas and just never left. They surrendered him to us as a stray that just wanted a family. He was adopted out to a fantastic family that drove all the way from New Mexico to come pick him up!
Update from the new family:
We have had Sam (aka Pal) for over a year now. He has brought so much joy and love into our lives. At the time we got him we had two other rescue Labs - Ebony and Matty. Ebony was our first baby - rescued from Albuquerque Animal Control. Matty we got wind of from a local Lab rescue guy. Ebony was a black Lab cross and Matty is a Yellow (white) Lab. Both dogs accepted Sam right off the bat. Matty had a new playmate and Ebony had some one else to boss around.
Ebony was 11 3/4 years old and shortly after we got Sam (4-6 mos) we had to put her down. Matty is 3 years older than Sam but still a big puppy. He was very laid back and very quiet. With Sam around those two dogs tussle with each other all the time. Matty has become more active and Sam and Matty chase after the ball and try to steal it from each other. But they are the best of pals. They sleep together, eat together, and carouse together.
Sam is a big lover. He has to be in on all the action. He wants to be a lap dog. When we first got him he had a very light brown thick outer coat. Within months, that came off and revealed a chocolate coat with subtle darker spots. He is a talker and a good watch dog - excellent hearing. He is excellent on a leash and knows many commands. My wife, Kris, takes the two of them for a 1 hour walk every day.
Sam is a great addition to our life and Matty really appreciated having a new buddy. It has helped him slim down - he only weights about 97 pounds - Sam is right in the same neighborhood but a lot faster than Matty.
Thank you all for a great addition to our family - I hope these two boys live a long life with us. It is very tough losing one of our kids.

Atticus

|
We love this guy! Atticus came to the Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue waaaay back in December of 2007! He came with his brother and his brother got adopted out right away - but Atticus had some cartilidge damage in his shoulder and no one wanted to adopt a dog that required surgery. We were finally able to pay for it after lots of fundraising - and Atticus no longer walks or runs with a limp! Soon after a fantastic family from Colorado Spring |

Lottie

|
What a pretty little lady? Lottie was a sweetheart from the beginning. We just fell in love with her photo and had to get her out of the shelter in Bella Vista, AK where she was dropped off with her mother. A family in Boulder offered to foster her and then decided to never let her go! We can't wait to hear an update about this sweet little girl! |

Chauncy

|
Chauncy came to us from a shelter in Adams County. No sooner had he gotten here, than he was picked up for a 3 day trail with a family in Longmont. And then he never came back to us!
An update from the new family: Chauncy came into our lives like an angel. He was in an Adams County shelter for 4 months, and then a teach in our school district became his foster mom. Through a kind person, I got the website and found him. He came one friday night to visit and has never left. Training is going great! We look forward to a summer spent as a family camping, hiking and playing!

Bridget

|
Bridget was one of 4 yellow lab puppies that we rescued from Nebraska. The owner had bred the mother, couldn't sell the puppies so didn't want them anymore. The situation was so horrible that he actually let the mother freeze to death over the winter. Thankfully Bridget and her 3 siblings got to us safely. Bridget was adopted to a great family in____ and we can't wait to hear more of an update soon! |

Romeo

|
Romeo came to us from Kansas. He was super sweet loving, and oh so mellow! He has some elbow and knee problems (like some labs do) that had caused him to be lazy and gain some weight. His great foster parents took him on walks and got him to lose some pounds, just in time for adoption! He's been adopted by a great family and we can't wait to hear more of an update soon!

Ronan

|
Ronan was one of 4 puppies that we saved from a nasty situation in Nebraska. He was adopted by a great family in Nederland. What a great place to be! He has a beautiful green yard to run around in and a great dad who takes him to work! He has been renamed Riley and he's getting so big! What a lucky pup! |

Dudley

|
Dudley was our first lucky puppy of April (and that's no joke - get it? April 1st?) Dudley came to us from Texas where he was overlooked as just another yellow lab. We couldn't say no to such a sweet face. He has one of the best smiles we've ever seen. And his new family couldn't be any happier!
Update from the new family: He is wonderful dog and learns super quick! He loves to be loved and we certainly love loving him.... I think he gets a lot of love! We have kept his name since he comes so well to it, but have thought about renaming him Houdini a few times because he has figured out how to spring the lock on his crate! We love him to pieces and are very very very very glad the Fates let him come back to us. We thank RMLR for united us and are planning to contiune fostering!
