 Crystal (formerly Katrina)

Crystal (formerly Katrina)Crystal (formerly Katrina)
Rescued February 16, 2011 Adopted March 5, 2011

Thought you might like to see a few new pictures.  I have tried to get a few of my son Evan and Crystal sitting together, but telling a busy toddler and a young dog to "sit, pose, and stay" is pretty near impossible...haha.  One or the other ofthem ends up just being a blur in the picture.  They are very considerate of each other though and I know will grow up to be best buds.

The picture of Evan in the kennel is of course a joke. He thinks it is funny to go in there and does it on his own...just want to preface that so no one calls social services....LOL.  We don't cage our child, and really only rarely for Crystal.

Crystal is doing very well and now we can't imagine our family without her.  She is still a pup, of course, and has to be watched all the time so she doesn't get into trouble, but she learns amazingly fast and is very responsive.  She is calming down around my cats too, so progress is being made.   We figured out that she definitely just wants to play with them vs. harm them, but her playing with them would harm them, and that is the point we will eventually get across to her. For now we have a system worked out so everyone stays safe and no one is cooped up all the time.

Petsmart obedience classes are a total bore to Crystal...LOL.  She is way too smart and fast for the slow pace of the class.  That's ok though, because after seeing her leap with the agility of a cat, literally, up onto our dining room table (of course that's a no-no), I have decided that after the Petsmart class, we are going to try her in agility training.  There is a group in nearby  Ft. Lupton that offers classes.  Anybody heard of them?  Looks like fun.  I think she would love it.

She is very fun to take to the dog park and for walks! We go all the time. Though she completely ignores us at the dog park for the first 10 minutes or so, she has so much fun, and does great with the other dogs and people.  She does the Border Collie crouch and stalk thing to the other dogs and the Labrador fetch and chase with us.  Sooooo cute to watch.  People are always admiring her.

I know you all are busy, so please tell me if you don't want these long updates.  Just want to share with you how much we love Crystal and that we really appreciate you all saving this amazing dog.

Macy

Rescued March 29, 2011 - Adopted April 1, 2011

Hello RMLR,

We have only had Macy for one day and she had already won all of our hearts. She warmed up to my husband quickly(she was a little nervous with him at the adoption meeting) and leaves the cats alone. She and our rat terrier are working things out pretty well, too.  They haven't really played together much yet, but don't mind eachother either. They both seem to do their own thing, always in the same room as us.  Most importantly, she is AMAZING with our three kids. She is so sweet and gentle with each of them.

Fred III

Rescued March 31, 2011 Adopted April 6, 2011

We want to thank everyone at RMLR for our second very succesful adoption. Fred is a very sweet and kind companion, and a great friend to Dixie. They tested each other the first day but have figured things out since and are very happy. They do everything together now. We especially wanted to thank Cheree for her help, and especially to Shelby and Toni for fostering Fred. We know why it was so tough to let him go.

Thanks,
The Herting Family

Charlotte
Our dream come true!

Rescued March 19, 2011 Adopted April 9, 2011

To all the amazing volunteers at RMLR,

We are extremely grateful for your support and all your hard work on our behalf.  From the moment we saw all your dogs on the site, we were captivated and the application process was impecable.  We appreciate all the attention you gave us and help along with way.  From the moment we saw Charlotte on the website and read her bio sheet, we were very interested (actually, Hilary was obsessed).  However, we knew we couldn't get our hopes up being so far away in Telluride.  There were many times where we wanted to hop in the car right away to come meet her which is a crazy idea considering we're 6 hours away!  We waited until we could both make the journey and left it to fate.  The the mean time, Hilary had formed a bond with Angelica- Charlotte's fantastic foster Mom!  I think Angelica spent about 3 hours total on the phone with Hilary!

April 9, our dream came true and we met Charlotte who exceeded all of our expectations.  Her description and photos were spot on and it was love at first site looking into her greenish/yellow eyes!

Everyday since we picked her up we laugh, nurture, love, train, sigh, learn and are inspired by her.  She is such a lover- loves people, other dogs and kids.  I took her to the town park again this morning and she loves to play in the snow and discover new smells.  She is so comfortable in her new house and is peacefully taking a nap now.  Like Angelica said in her description, she's actually pretty mellow and easy going for a puppy.  The nice part is I get to take her to work and since she loves attention, that's a good fit.  She is our new shadow and we love it.

I've included couple updated photos and I should let you know, she wasn't really responding to the name Charlotte so we renamed her Lulu.  She looks like a Lulu to us and we wanted to start her new life with a fresh start!  We couldn't be happier thanks to the wonderful people at Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue.  When we were in Denver and out walking with Lulu, we were stopped MANY times by friendly folks who wanted to pet Lulu.  They instantly had the reaction we did of loving her and wanting to know about her.  We told about 10 people that day about RMLR so I hope the word of mouth will help raise awareness of your amazing organization.

We look forward to keeping in touch and we can't thank you all enough.

Love,
Hilary, Carson & Lulu

Hazel (Formerly Sugar)

Rescued March 24, 2011 Adopted March 27, 2011

Hello!

We adopted Sugar on March 27, and want to let you know that we are enjoying her very much.  Our kids weren't sure the name Sugar fit her well, and after multiple trials the name Hazel has stuck.  She is a mellow puppy who is sweet and eager to learn. Her crate training has gone almost flawlessly, and she's growing bigger by the minute.  She started out a bit standoff-ish in regards to bonding with us, although she is making great progress as she settles in at home.   We have two boys whom she obviously adores, and she's beginning to figure out that adults aren't so bad either.  She is clearly excited to see the kids in the morning, and whenever they come in the door from being away for a while.  She's met several of the neighborhood dogs, and plays well with them all.  She's also met our geriatric cat Stanley, the long term king of the household.  After discovering that cats have sharp claws, they are getting along fine.  Hazel walks with us to and from school every day and is already popular among the student and parent crowd - everyone knows her by name and has to stop to pet her soft head and speculate about her breed mix.  Her first class of puppy training is on Saturday, and she's already studying up on her click-and-treats here at home.

Thank you for helping us find her.  I think she is going to be a great match for our family.  Many people have asked me where we got her, so you have gotten many referrals.  Our vet recommended we wait until May or June to have her spayed, and we will definitely be sending you the paperwork when we do.

Regards,

Beth Benson

Rebel & His New Forever Friend

Rescued March 19, 2011 - Adopted April 19, 2011
Jacks & His Forever Family

Rescued January 7, 2011 - Adopted April 26, 2011

Jacks did well his first day.  He slept in the Kennel in our room last night.  He did a good job going pee outside today, but he saved his poop for indoors.  As soon as Kate woke up this morning, she started calling him from upstairs and he bounded up the stairs to greet her.  I was very surprised to see him run up the stairs like that, but then he was too scared to come down.  The girls and I had to stand at the bottom with treats, while Pat went to the top and helped him get down the first couple of steps.  I think our stairs might be steeper than yours, because he was very hesitant and still his.  We cheered when he got down to the bottom and he was wagging his tail like crazy.  The girls played with him all day and already started dressing him up and brushing his hair.  Pat called him downstairs tonight for bedtime, but he made his way back up to Allison's room, where we found him lying on the floor next to her bed, covered up with a blanket she gave him, so we just carried his pillow up there and he is happily sleeping next to Allison's bed.  It seemed like he might have been missing you guys today a few times, but he also seemed very happy at times too.   I think he will eventually be fine.  He is still getting used to his surroundings.  Pat wants to know if you will forward Jack's Vet information again because he has misplaced the paper you gave him.  Hope things are well and we'll talk soon.  Richelle
