Meet Rugby

Find out more information about Rugby and our other Labs for Adoption under Adoptable Dogs

Rugby is a complete lover boy who always wants to be where his people are and snuggle, snuggle, snuggle!  He has easily won the hearts of his foster family, who cannot say enough good things about this boy. Rugby is still very much a puppy, so he will need a family that can help him work on basic commands.  He is a very smart dog and certainly knows the word “treat”, so food-motivated training could be perfect for him.  Rugby absolutely loves his dog bed, playing with other dogs (especially a good game of tug of war), and has also done well around cats.  While his foster is away, Rugby does best free to roam the house (as long as the counters are clear of food), this boy is a gentleman.  His foster is working on getting him adjusted to car rides, as this is somewhat unknown territory for Rugby, but he is becoming more and more relaxed on road trips, especially if it involves going somewhere to get food! Rugby enjoys his walks and does excellent on or off a leash and would be the perfect walking or hiking companion. This boy has been known to jump a fence or two, so a 6ft fence in his new yard, as well as monitoring him while he is outside, will be a must.  He is a sweetheart who aims to please and is looking for his forever family who will be eager to work on Rugby’s training as he grows up and will appreciate and adore him and his lover attitude!

Plea to Spay & Neuter   Minimize

Everyday 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are also born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all the animals. As a result, millions of healthy, loving cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies face early deaths as a form of animal control. Others are left to fend for themselves against automobiles, the elements, other animals, and cruel humans. You can help just by spaying and neutering your pets, don't ever buy from a pet store, as almost every one of them uses some form of a puppy mill, and remind people to adopt from a shelter or a rescue. Thank you! (from here)

Please take a minute to read...

An intact dog can produce two litters a year of 6-10 puppies per litter, which means in six years, one female dog and her offspring could produce up to 67,000 dogs. An average of 40,000 cats/dogs are euthanized in Colorado each year (that's JUST Colorado!).

Please click on www.savecoloradopets.org and find out more about this state sponsored initiative to subsidize spay & neuter programs. Thank you.

Tenderfoot Training web site)

Some rough statistics on shelters:

Out of eight to ten million animals that are in shelters annually, roughly 60% of those dogs are euthanized. Of the other 40% that are adopted out there are 20% of those returned for medical or behavioral problems.

Info obtained from National council on Pet Population study and policy, which is a colalition of animal-related organizations, based on estimates from the American Society for the prevention of Cruelty to animals and the American Veterinary Medical association.
