Our Current Doggie Poop Sheets - The Following Dogs Are Available For Adoption
|
Note: If you are interested in adopting a lab you must first submit an Adoption Application to Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue. The process of reviewing applications may take two or three days. A phone interview and home visit must also take place before an adoption is completed. If you have specific questions about a particular dog, please submit your application for adoption and we will be happy to discuss which dog(s) you are interested in then. We can not guarantee that the dog that you are interested in will still be available after your application has been reviewed and processed.

Just a quick thank you to all of our great foster families! They provide us with all the great Bio Information on all of these great dogs, as well as some better photos than the ugly shelter photos that the dog comes with.
A special thanks to Charee! She frequently travels around to our foster homes and takes the fantastic quality professional quality shots seen below! It does wonders to show the personality of our great labs! She does have her own company - check out her great work and if you like what you're looking at visit her website to schedule a photoshoot with your pup! Thanks Charee!

Does pretty well |
| Personality: |
At an estimated two years old Miss Fiona is still very much a playful pup. She gets along great with her new canine buddy at her foster home. As of yet she is not too interested in playing fetch, however, she has been known to toss herself the tennis ball. When she thinks no one is looking she likes to admire herself in the mirror. Who can blame her with that beautiful black coat accented by a white splash on her chest and topped off with adorable white toes, Fiona is one pretty girl! Fiona is a very quick learner, with some patience and training she will certainly add to her repertoire of commands. She already knows "sit", "down" and "here"...Fiona would like us to add that she is open to accepting treats for these performances. Unfortunately it seems that people may not always have been very kind to Fiona, she takes a minute to smell you out and make sure you are trust worthy. Once she has deemed you worthy she is all for love, lots of attention and rubs right behind the ears are perfect. Fiona is house trained, loves to hang out with her people and would do best in a home with older children that will be as gentle as she is! She loves attention and ear rubs and always has to be in the same room with someone. She is a smart dog and with the right training (and patience) she would be a very quick learner. |

Yes, I love playing with my foster brother! I also loved meeting everyone at the dog park, but I got a little overwhelmed with all the excitement. You should probably keep my on a leash until I build up my confidence and feel comfortable with so many dogs coming and going. |
| Cats: |

| Children: |
Probably slightly older children. Jenna is excitable over food and sometimes paws playfully to get attention - that may be more appropriate for children that can be taught how to feed a dog, or not knocked over easily. |

Yes! I LOVE going for walks. My foster Mom and I stretch our legs every night after dinner and I get to check out all the new smells. She’s so impressed with me – I walk great on a retractable leash, no special equipment needed. Every once in a while I catch a great smell and plant all 4 legs until I’ve checked it out thoroughly, but I don’t believe in dragging my walker like my foster brother does. (in the picture above I'm wearing a gentle leader... it didn't bother me one bit!) |
| Personality: |
Hi! I’m Jenna and I would LOVE to be your new best friend. Even though I might not have had a lot of training in the past, I’m a smart girl and eager to make you happy! I know “come”, “sit”, and “no” and I’m ready to learn more. In fact, there’s nothing I won’t do for a yummy treat!
My foster Mom says I’m a medium energy girl – I can keep up with my 1 year old foster brother just fine when we play, but I don’t need to run, run, run like he does. A nice long walk is all I need! Though if you wanted to take me for a jog, I think I might like that too.
Coming from a shelter, I want all the attention I can get. There’s nothing I’d like better than being right by your side while you pet my soft, fluffy coat. I’ll even climb in your lap if you let me! |

Dakota is an absolute sweetie. He loves to cuddle and snuggle his foster's neck. He follows his foster parents around the house and curls up at our feet the minute they sit down. He does not like to be separated from them. We think if he had his way, he would be a lapdog! He’s very enthusiastic about life! When his foster parents walk in the door, his entire body wiggles with excitement! For a high energy dog, Dakota is surprisingly gentle. As sweet and cuddly as he is, Dakota has a lot of energy and needs adequate exercise. We think he would make anyone a wonderful running or hiking companion.
We feel Dakota would do well with an active family that has some time to spend with him. He loves playing with our dog, so a home with other dogs would be ideal, but he would probably do well as an only dog also.

He also wants to please. If he is told no, he listens. Parker needs to be with a family where he can express his high energy positively—running, walking, learning to play catch, etc. He needs someone that will set boundaries with him and continue training him—he is a smart dog. Milky Roo is one sweet middle aged-senior lab, in the short time we've had him we have found out he smiles so sweetly, literally, he jumps like a kanagroo for treats, but calms easily, hips seem good, he enjoys going for a walk and riding in the car. There are so many new things with being indoors that he's curious and always interested in what you're doing or what new noises are. He's big, goofy, and ALWAYS happy! Doesn't like going in the crate, but could be taught, although he may not ever need a crate. Once he is in his crate he doesn't make a sound, he sits quietly and patiently. So far we have fallen in love with this baby, he is a sweetheart! Since Milky roo spent most of his life outside, now that he has gotten a taste of the indoor life, he doesn't like to stay outside anymore and that's good cause he doesn't deserve to be left outside and will never be left out again |
| Story: |
Milky Roo has spent the majority of his life in the backyard of someone's house on a stake. A neighbor tried to rescue him, but the owners told her to mind her own business. Recently the family's house was foreclosed on and they moved. Milky roo was left in the backyard for 2 weeks before anyone realized he was there. This very nice woman sent Milky Roo to Colorado in hopes to find Milky Roo a real home where he could be loved and live out the rest of his life living inside on a comfy dog bed or couch!! |

Pops is a super sweet boy that is doing GREAT in his foster home. He has no need for a kennel because he is housetrained and is past that chewing stage!! He does well with the resident dog at his foster home, their 10 and 7 yr old kids AND the two resident cats. Pops enjoys his daily trips to the dog park and the little dogs are usually his favorite!! Pops is going to be a great and easy addition to any family!! He will "talk" to you when he either wants to go outside or thinks that he needs a little more attention than you are giving him!! He is just a nice old man looking for a family to live out those golden years with!! He would do well in any home as long as you have plenty of LOVE and KISSES to give him!!
P.S. Be careful because Pops is pretty tall and will help himself to any food that you have out (in a gentle way though!). |
| Story: |
Pops was found as a stray in Kansas City, MO. He had to be treated for heartworms and is recovering fantastic from that. Right after his treatment, he had 3 seizures so currently is on seizure meds. We think that he may have had these from stress so are weaning him off the meds. If he does need to be on the seizure meds for the remainder of his life, they are about $10/month. His front teeth are worn down to the gums from who knows what, but this doesn't seem to affect his eating!! He needs to gain about 10 pounds. I only think that as Pops becomes healthier, his energy level is just going to rise!! |
Thanks to the Mauk Family for being a great foster to Pops!

Cassius or "Cash" is a great dog!!! He had a warm welcome for all the dogs and people at Chatfield. Cash loves searching for things in the water. He sticks his head under water to see if he can catch anything. Cash is a big dog with an even bigger heart who loves to be close to you; getting his belly rubbed, leaning on your legs, and giving slobbering kisses. Having 3 legs does not slow him down at all. He goes up and down inclines, stairs, and jumps into cars with no problem.
Along with his big heart Cash has a big appetite, and loves to do tricks for food. He is excellent at sit, shake, lie down, and come.
When it comes to walking on a leash Cash is in a hurry and pulls. He is just not used to being on one. Off leash he never wanders too far and comes when called.
Cash is potty trained, has never met cats but I don't think it will be an issue. He did great with the small dogs at the park.
He is an escape artist in a kennel, but has not had any chewing issues. |

Labradoodle? Schnauzador? The jury is still out on my genetic makeup, but one thing’s for sure- my wonderfully wirey hair adds to my cute appearance! You can’t help but smile when you look at me! I’m a lovely lab mix on the smaller side. Though I’m relatively petite at only 45 lbs, I’m built like a lab, and definitely have a bright, sunny, people pleasing lab personality! I love to play and romp, and I think toys are fantastic! I love to chomp on a good bone. I’m super smart and am easily trainable. I already know to “sit,” and “down,” and am crate trained. I am a bit bouncy and need a bit of work on the leash, but that’s just a result of my happy zest for life. With practice and patience, there’s nothing I can’t learn! I do well with other animals. My foster family has other dogs and cats, and I am respectful of them and enjoy their company. My ideal home would be active and loving and will include me in all kinds of activities! I look forward to car rides and hikes, and lots of cuddle time! I am an adaptable girl, and would happily find my place in almost any home who promises to keep me and love me “furever!” |

| Personality: |
Hi, my name is Shadow Marie. I am a beautiful petite black lab mix. My foster family says I have the most precious face. I am also a very loving little girl—kisses are my specialty. When I am happy and excited, my tail makes my whole body wiggle. I enjoy playing with my foster brother and his toys, and running in the backyard. One of the things I am working on is walking on a leash—I’m trying a gentle leader right now. I guess that I am just too curious about my surroundings and like to take the lead.
Although I might not need it, I do a good job in my crate. I snuggle on my blanket and go right to sleep at night. I will sit for treats so my foster mom is starting to train me—she knows I am a smart girl who is eager to learn and please. I enjoy being a part of the family, and the one thing that I know is that I’d be the perfect addition to your family.

Shadow Marie is an owner surrender from Manhattan, KS. She was given up be her owners about a year ago because they couldn't afford her vetting. She had a litter of puppies which all found homes, but she has been in foster care for about a year!! She hopes to find her forever home VERY SOON!! |

Ray is a super sweet fellow that is loosing his eyesight and then on top of that we just found out that he is heartworm positive and will begin his treatment tomorrow (1/19). He so wants a home that he can just learn the ropes of and BE THERE PERMANENTLY!! He does great with all other dogs, cats, and kids. He needs a new home with patience as he learns his surroundings and overcomes his nervousness. Who wouldn't after being shuffled all over?? He is a GREAT size for anyone and looks like a permanent puppy at about 35-40 pounds!! He is very good in his kennel and probably appreciates that down time as he learns the lay of the land. Ray might be going blind but he still LOVES his walks and has even taken on the dog park (on a leash for starters!). Ray needs a special place to call home and would love to find it soon before his eyesight is completely gone. Right now he can see the shadows and dark/light. Ray just arrived to RMLR so check back to get more updates including what a local vet saysut his eyesight!! |
| Story: |
Ray was found in Arkansas as an abandoned and starved dog. His foster mom kept him for several months for the Humane Society and then they started to put pressure on her to have him euthanized b/c they couldn't find a home. That is when we decided that he needed to find a home in CO!!! |

Hello, I am Chester or as my foster parents call me Chesterfield which seems to suit my reserved demeanor a little better. I am only 1.5 years old, so yes I realize I have a lot of learning to do. I have a tall lean athletic build which my foster Mom says would be great for hiking or being a companion for a runner. I do need to stay on one of those leashes as I can get scared at times and I can really run if I think I need to. I REALLY enjoy being with other dogs so much so that my foster Mom says that my forever family will need to include a playful pup like myself. Watching what other dogs do is how I learn the ropes on what the people like me to do. Not long ago I was strictly left outdoors so it has taken me a bit to become comfortable indoors. I just want to make sure everyone is happy and no one is upset at me for doing something wrong. I love my crate and although I don't need it overnight, I do enjoy relaxing in it while my people are out. It gives me a safe place and also deters me from accidentally chewing on something that wasn't meant for me, remember I am only 1.5. Yes I am house trained, even though I can be shy I love attention from my people... I have recently discovered how nice it is to snuggle up on the couch right in between my foster parents. Indoors I am very quiet but outdoors is when you really see my personality shine. When my foster Mom comes out to play with us I get so excited I jump up and down run circles around her or just sneak up and walk right by her side. My foster Mom also says I may be one of the quirkiest dogs she has ever met but along with that I take the prize for being the gentlest. That's me Chesterfield, quiet, quirky and cute! But don't just fall in love with my devilishly good looks I will need lots of leadership, love and patience as I continue on my quest of being the best dog ever! |

| Personality: |
What a handsome fellow! Although nearly 2 months in a shelter have taken toll on his snout, the hair should grow back. Ferris is a happy dog with few issues. He definitely wants to be in the center of the action. He will follow you from room to room.
When Ferris first arrived, he was afraid of the wood floors, but has adjusted very well.
On his second night, Ferris discovered the television. All of a sudden, he looked up and started watching intently, moving his head around to view at different angles. He backed away, growled a little at it, sat and watched some more, and repeated this act a few times. We were watching ‘The Daily Show’, so maybe he is really a Republican and doesn’t like Jon Stewart. He was fine when Stephen Colbert came on. :)
Ferris knows his name, knows ‘sit’, and will come when called. Well, at the dog park, he will come about half the time when called. Ferris takes direction well, and he wants to please.
Ferris willingly goes into his crate, but it keeps him from the other dogs and people, and he does not like that. At night, it takes him a few minutes to calm down, and then he is fine.
Ferris definitely needs another dog to play with and an outlet for his energy. Long walks, runs, hikes, etc. He meets other dogs well on a leash.
Ferris spends a good part of the day outside with his head poked into the doggie door, trying to convince the other dogs to come out and play. He has not been very successful, but he continues to be optimistic.

Lexi knows "sit", "comes when called", "NO", "fetch" and "lay down". She could improve on keeping "all four on the floor".
Although Lexi has lived with children of all ages we have found that she is best with children who are at least 8 years old, past the years of tail pulling and walking around with tempting morsels right at nose height. A couple of her favorite pass times are playing fetch, running in the yard with her black lab buddy or just simply laying at your feet and being by your side. Lexi did fine with the resident cat and LOVES taking car rides especially when they lead to the local dog park. Lexi's one vice is food! She must dine alone as she has shown herself to be possessive/protective of her food and bones. Lexi is a sweet young girl that has been fortunate to experience the joys of being part of a family and really looks forward to having one to call her own...forever! |

That's what it was - HIS new place. He definitely wants to be the man of the house. He wants lots of playtime, but even more than that, lots of attention from his human friends. He will follow you everywhere you go and try to fit in your lap when you're sitting down. If you tell him "no," he obeys, but he'll show you his best sad puppy face. He is a sweetheart and just needs lots of lovin'. Other than his fun personality, he is absolutely gorgeous, and he knows it. He will take a pose in front of you so you can admire him. You can admire his beautiful coat, his big, floppy ears and his tongue, which is almost always hanging out of his mouth. Bronc would be perfect for a young, active couple with another dog for him to play with. He plays a little rough with other dogs, and he's learning to be nicer, but he would still do great at a dog park. Bronc is a loving, loyal and funny dog who will give his forever family lots of smiles and laughs. |

Even though Lucy has only spent overnight with her foster home, she is fabulous! She loves her foster brothers and lets them be the boss. She shares food, treats, and toys nicely with everyone. She is fairly calm and mellow. One of her best qualities is that she loves to be loved. Lucy loves to cuddle and is the sweetest girl. She will give tiny dog kisses if you let her. Even after one night, Lucy's foster home would describe her as "almost perfect." As we spend more time with her and get to know her over the next few days, we will update her bio. |

Jack (6 years) M

Jack is a 6 year old black lab who is a special dog with special needs. Jack was recently diagnosed with diabetes and has developed cataracts, leaving him blind. He needs daily insulin shots. Despite these obstacles, he is incredibly sweet natured and a spirited boy. He does really great on a leash, loves walks and playing tug. He needs a loving family who can care for his needs, give him lots of love and a second chance. For more information or to arrange a meeting, please contact Chelsea at the Steamboat Veterinary Hospital, 970-879-1041.
Pete (10 years)M

Pete is in dire need of a home. His owner, and elderly gentleman has fallen ill to cancer and can no longer care for him. Pete is a perfect dog for someone in need of companionship. His activity level is very low and when he goes outside he sometimes has a burst of energy as if he is a puppy. He is very good around cats but not other dogs.
Estimated 10 years old
80 lbs
Lab-retriever mix
Friendly, mellow disposition
Neutered male
Perfect health, He loves to set his head on your lap for his pets
If you or anyone you know has a place in their heart, their home, and in their life for Pete, please call or send me an e-mail and I will introduce you to him.

Angel (5 years) F

We have had Angel since August of this year. She is approximately 5 years old and is very sweet. She is dog selective- she loves some dogs and is easily annoyed by others. She has some incontinence that has resolved itself with medication. She was fostered briefly and did very well. She is housebroken and loves to go on walks. She bonded quickly with the foster couple. She is definetely no cats- looks more serious than just "chase". We love her dearly but nobody is looking at her- we have had zero interest and we are hoping for new exposure to help her find her forever home. She is a chocolate lab...maybe shepherd mix but looks mostly lab. I am attaching a photo- let me know if you can help.
