Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue October Newsletter 10.08

Happy Howl-o-ween!

Last year an estimated one in ten people (or 7.4 million households) donned their beloved pet in some sort of costume. Many people who own pets think of them as family members and will go all out to include dogs, cats and other critters in their Halloween festivities. This includes trick-or-treating, handing out candy, costume parties or even celebrating at a friend or family member's house. Nothing quite says Halloween than having your pet running around dressed as Superman, Zorro or even Buzz Lightyear!

So this year, don't just dress up your kids, dress up your dog as well. It's a fun and inexpensive way to make Halloween a night for the whole family!

October: Adopt-A-Dog Month!

Having a dog rocks! It promotes exercise, helps lower blood pressure, helps fight depression and lonliness. Millions of dogs are put into shelters every year by owners who simply can't care for them any longer. They aren't bad dogs – they simply aren't with the right family yet. October has been named the month to promote and spread awareness about adopting these precious pups. We at the Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue are doign our small part by rescuing as many good adoptable lab and lab mixes, from the places where they are most likely not going to be given a chance to be adopted out to a great family. We challenge you to spread the word this month! Tell your friends and family about the need to adopt from rescues and shelters. Spread the word about spaying and neutering your pets - there wouldn't be a need for rescues if everyone was a responsible pet owner. Share your stories about your own rescued or adopted dog. Let's get the word out to support your local shelters, rescues and most importantly, the dogs for National Adopt-A-Dog Month!

October Events

We have a couple very cool events coming up this month! Swing by to see adoptable dogs or learn more about the rescue!

Next Saturday October 18th from 5:00pm until 7:00pm we are hosting a Wine Tasting at Reserve List 1886 South Pearl Street Denver, CO with the Golden Retriever Freedom Rescue. It'll be a great chance to wine and dine yourself nicely while the proceeds go to help dogs at both rescues. Your donation of $30, ($25 of which is tax deductible), would be greatly appreciated. You can make your donation online via PayPal at www.rockymountainlabrescue.com This event is open to everyone, not just RMLR and GRFR adopters and volunteers. All the proceeds go to a great cause! Attendance space is limited - there are only 30 spots open so Reserve Your Place Today!

Then on Saturday October 25th there is a Howl-o-ween Parade in Louisville, CO. It is from 10:00am until 11:30am. Dress yourself, your pet, your friends and your kids and go trick-or-treating through the Louisville Arboretum. We'll be there with a booth set up, accepting dontations, have lots of information about adoptable dogs and treats for your pup!

If you have any questions about any events listed above (attending or volunteering) please email us for more information!

October's Dog of the Month

Meet Ridley!

Meet Ridley, formerly Harley. He's came to the Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue from Leavenworth, KS where he was really on his LAST DAY at a shelter. He's very loving, friendly and happy. He's mixed with some sort of shepard probably because he has herding tendancies and a prey drive. At his last house he loved herding cows and sheep next door. He's going to need a strong leader - someone who won't let him push them around. He has the brain of a shepard or collie and the energy of a young lab!! So be prepared!! He is SUPER friendly and just wants to be around people - he's very responsive.

Check out more information about Ridley and our other Labs for Adoption under Adopting.

Volunteering and Fostering

We are always looking for Volunteers.  Our biggest need is transports, fostering and helping us review applications for adoption.  We need people to phone interviews and always looking for people to help with events and doing home visits for potential adopters. We don't bite - we promise!

Our foster homes are an essential entity of the Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue. Without foster homes we can not operate. If you are interested in a lab or lab mix this is a perfect way to find out if you are ready for one. We do have some requirements and an application process. As we need and value you in order for this rescue to run, we will work with your needs as well as the needs of your family to make the transition of fostering a dog easy and smooth.  We will also work with your time frames and do as much of the leg work as you need us to do.  Please select the links below to see requirements and fill out an application. Please note both links below were used from another rescues site. The requirements are a guideline and our perfect foster would look like this, however our lives are hectic and these dogs need to be saved so we are completely understanding and WILL WORK WITH YOU!

If you are interested in volunteering in any way please email us at rockymountainlabrescue@gmail.com.
