Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue March Newsletter

March Labness

Happy (sunny and warm Colorado) March everyone! Last month was incredible! Thanks to our Black Lab awareness month and our Puppy Love month promotions we adopted out 23 dogs! Eighteen of those were under one year old and twelve of them were black labs!

Thank you to all volunteers who helped us through this very busy month. Whenever puppies arrive, there is a large influx of applications. It takes many man hours from dedicated volunteers to call all the applicants, process all the applications and conduct the phone interviews. So thank you, thank you, thank you!

Calling all Volunteers!

Thank you so much for your helped in the past! We've exceed our expectations immensly! However, we always need more help. The Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue Run 5K is going to take a lot of manpower to organize and run successfully! If you have anytime before the race to contact possible vendors, spread the word about the race, or help organize please let us know. We'll also need many hands to help us the day of the race. We'll need people to help with stuffing goodie bags, standing a long the race route, water stations, receiving lines, registration and more. If you can help with any of these please email us HERE and let us know how you'd like to help out!

There are always things to help out with around the Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue. Fostering is an ongoing need of the rescue. Our foster homes are an essential entity of the Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue. Without foster homes we can not operate. We do have some requirements and an application process. As we need and value you in order for this rescue to run, we will work with your needs as well as the needs of your family to make the transition of fostering a dog easy and smooth. Email us HERE to ask questions about fostering or fill out a fostering application online.

When Irish Pups are Smiling: How to go green with your pet

C'mere, me furry little leprechauns, and gather 'round the pawt of gold to hear me grand tails of cheer, luck and charm! I'll play me Irish flute while the lads and colleens slide down rainbows and order pints of green brew for their furiends and families! Come one, come all!

Have you ever thought about going green with your pets? Oh I don't mean adopting frogs or lizards (unless amphibians and reptiles are your thing). I'm talking about going earth-friendly. Yes, you can go green with your pup! Here are a few things you can do to go green with your pet this St Patrick's Day!

- Choose pet food without the chemical preservatives BHA, BHT and ethoxyquin, vary cats' diets to limit their exposure to mercury in seafood, and choose organic or free-range ingredients rather than "by-products."

- Care for your lawn without using insecticides, which may cause nervous system damage in pets that walk on the treated lawn, eat the grass, or breathe in the chemicals.

- Get biodegradable, compostable doo-bags for when you go on walks with your pooch--or just reuse bags like plastic newspaper wrappers.

Meet Mister March: Trance (O'Leary)

My name is Trance and I am ready to be adopted.  My perfect human would be female, with no small children.  I don't know if I like cats or not, I haven't been introduced to any while in foster care.  I love to be petted and brushed.  I'm a pretty laid back guy, I like to play tug of war, but I can also just hang out with you on a sunny afternoon.  I am house trained and sleep on my dog bed.  I was neglected before I was rescued by RMLR and I have come a long way.  I have learned that humans can be nice and I have grown back my winter coat and found I have nice wavey fur.  I am faithful and loving and wish you would take me home with you.

Trance does have arthritis. We have consulted two vets about surgery and it's not something that needs to be addressed in the immediate future. Trance was rescued from a shelter in Independence, MO.
