April: Raining Cats and Dogs
The month of March entered like a lab... er, lamb and left like a lion here in Colorado. We started March with a week of sixty degree gorgeousness and ended it with a blizzard bringing over a foot of snow!
Just like the month, we here at the Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue have seen our share of both lambs and lions. In March, RMLR saw 13 dogs find fantastic forever families. Sadly, March also saw the passing of three dearly loved Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue dogs - Bandit, Burt and Fred. The Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue volunteers and rescue community were deeply affected by the loss of these 3 fellas. We not only touched the lives by rescuing them from bad situations, but they touched ours in their our special way. All three boys will be fondly remembered.

April's Dog of the Month: Casey
Are you looking for a tall, "red" handsome guy? Look no further! At four years old Casey still has the energy to run by your side, but is also content to lay on your lap. His foster Mom describes him as the epitome of a "man's best friend" willing to go with the flow or whatever it takes to be securely by your side. Casey is a love with his human companions and would very much appreciate being the only canine guy in your life...he might consider a submissive lady dog friend but he is ready to settle in, eager to bond with his forever family. He is potty trained and enjoys walks but when it comes to walking on a leash he could use a little more refining. Casey is not interested in toys or fetching balls but what he does LOVE is car rides. By his pictures you can tell, Casey is a special guy! With a beautiful reddish coat, a soft expressive face and easy going attitude Casey is looking for a family who wants a young dog who has just passed the bloom of puppy hood. A dog who will easily scale Mountains, swim rivers or run by your side but will never complain when it's time to curl up for a nap!

Success Story: Toby
We have adopted out over 300 dogs at RMLR. We love these dogs and spend a lot of time getting close to them! And we'd love to hear how they're doing. If you're a new forever family, or adopted awhile ago and have a great story - we'd love to hear it! Send us your success stories to our email today!
This month's success story comes from Greenwood Village, CO and Toby! From the new family:
I can't believe that it has been over a year since we adopted Toby. I thought it was about time for an update and maybe you can post this pic from this past Christmas on the website.
As you can see, Tucker (on the left) and Toby are still fine friends. They cuddle together and play show and tell with the toys and then have a rousing game of tug-of-war. Tucker always gives in and then goes to get another toy or bone. Pretty soon the whole family room is filled with stuffed toys and bones. We need to train them to put them back in the toy box.
Toby loves to lick Tucker all over his head and in his ears. Tucker just closes his eyes and seems to thoroughly enjoy it.
Thank you again and keep up the good work,
Nancy and Bruce Forbes

Call for Foster Families
To the RMLR Volunteers:
Daily, we are forced to turn away great dogs, either as owner surrenders or from high risk shelters, because we don't have enough foster homes to accommodate them. We feel that many of the dogs would be highly adoptable and would probably be placed quickly, but without the foster openings we must turn them away.
Please consider fostering, even if only once. Maybe you could only do it for a few nights. Whatever you could do, we would appreciate it. If you have friends that are thinking about getting a dog, fostering would be a good first step for them. If you know people love dogs but travel too much or don't want to make a long term commitment, fostering might be a very satisfying alternative.
So many dogs are in jeopardy right now because people are losing their jobs and their homes. Please consider fostering, and please help us to come up with ideas for getting new foster homes.
If only this, take a second and print out our foster flier. Hang it up at your local dog park, vet's office or pet supply store. Every little bit helps! |
